This plot is an AU story that will take place before the series begins. Will contain underage themes. Sam is 16, Dean 20.

Hunting is a dangerous job, and John Winchester always knew the risks when he started down that road. On a not so 'routine' hunt, when Dean is 18 years old and Sam is 14, John goes missing leaving the boys to have to fend for themselves.

They search for their father for months, but soon come to terms that John is simply gone, probably dead, and Dean knowing he can't take care of his brother as well as take up his father's 'crusade', stops hunting and finally settles them in a small town in the midwest. He gets a job to support them both while Sam finishes school. Its a struggle, but they get by, and after a while they learn to be happy with the cards they've been dealt.

Though Sam hated the circumstances, he's glad to finally have a real stable home with Dean, and though Dean misses the hunt he's content with his job at the garage and knowing his brother will be safe. Two years pass like this and they are content with their lives now, then one night they get a surprise they never expected.

John Winchester finds them.

Where has their father been all this time? What will they do when John insists they take up the hunt again? What will John do when he finds out how his son's relationship has changed? Is it really John Winchester, or something much worse?
